decode

The decode command is very useful for debugging programs and scripts that fail to run from the DTMF command assigned to invoke them.  It is an IRLP specific command.  As user repeater, simply type, "decode <numeric sequence>" and the node will attempt to handle it as though you had entered the DTMF command from your radio.  The benefit to invoking the script or program with this command is that you get visual feedback as the node software attempts to process the request.  It often helps in trying to discover where the system is having trouble executing a DTMF command.  It's also a handy way of controlling any DTMF accessible features of your node, right from the command line!  Next time you have a shell open to your node and you are logged in as user repeater, try this exercise for disconnecting your node:

Type, "decode 73" and press enter.  That should demonstrate how easy the decode command is to use!
